Last time we had to wait an eternity between the true BMW 6 Series – 15 years, to be precise. Those were dark days, like Waiting for the Rapture or that one year the Yankees did not make the playoffs. Unfortunately, there is no gap, this time, BMW released information about its next generation, top-of-the-line two-door. Although the design of the 2012 BMW 6 Series has been inspected by the concept four-door coupe Grand in Beijing and the two doors Coupe Concept in Paris, the first version to arrive in production form is the 6 series convertible.
While similar in theory the car it replaces, the 2012 series begins in June many of the same updates – in terms of mechanics, technology and design – as the recently redesigned 5 Series and 7, with which it shares the platform.
Larger, more lean
However, any extra weight should not be a problem for the model series (original) solitary six, the 650i. 4.4-liter V8 packs of BMW, the one with two turbochargers and 400 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. This power is fed to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual or standard eight-speed automatic. BMW estimates a 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds, with a transmission for the 650i convertible, which was only three tenths slower than the M6 coupe next generation. The double-wishbone front suspension and multilink rear configuration is formed mainly of aluminum, while the electronically controlled dampers adjust compression settings and ongoing recovery and independent. As before, buyers can opt for Active Roll Stabilization, which uses sensors to calculate the amount of body roll and then neutralize it by hydraulic actuators on the roll bars. The steering is now electric, while the Active Steering option now adds the prefix “Integral”, through the direction of the rear wheel which improves handling and stability at high speed.

All of the above is likely to apply to any coupe model as well, but we’re talking about 2012 BMW 6 Series Convertible, so here’s the lowdown on the design of the roof and structural improvements. As before, the 6 Series drop-top has a unique “flying buttress” design of the roof with a vertical glass window that operates separately from the canvas roof in several layers. Lower the window and raise the roof and you will have a booth yet breezy sun-free. Lift the window and lower roof and you have a wind deflector.Like almost every new convertible, the BMW 650i Convertible 2012 shows a higher level of rigidity than its predecessor. BMW says that records a 50 percent increase in static torsional rigidity and strength means that the body is 29 percent larger than before. Both sound very impressive, although the old six comparisons almost caused a Continental 66.
Gadgets and Gizmos
New head-up display 2012 BMW 6 Series debut. The graphics are in color, the resolution is improved and there is a three-dimensional quality to the various symbols. Besides information about the base speed, HUD displays this navigation instructions and warnings optional lane departure warning systems and night vision.
The high-tech devices do not stop there. Standard features include a rear view camera, adaptive xenon headlights, fog lights and LED iDrive much better. The list of major features of BMW options and multi-lateral automatic camera angle, high beams, “active” system of blind-spot alert, advanced adaptive cruise control and an audio system, 12 speakers. The standard system has nine speakers, HD Radio and an auxiliary audio jack. USB / iPod connectivity is also available.
